Homes built roughly between 1985 and 1997 — large parts of Kanata, Orléans, Barrhaven and South Keys — often have grey poly-B (polybutylene) supply lines. They are increasingly a concern for Canadian home insurers.
Poly-B has a history of failures at fittings and connections, and some insurers now decline or surcharge homes that still have it. A failure can mean significant water damage.
If you are already renovating a bathroom, kitchen or basement, it is the ideal time to replace poly-B with modern PEX or copper — minimizing duplicate drywall work and getting it done once.
We flag poly-B at quote time, scope the replacement honestly (what actually needs doing versus what would be overkill), and complete it as part of the renovation so you only pay for finishing once.
